We’re in it together

Last night my husband and I watched CNBC’s House of Cards, a special report that aired in the US in February about the origins of the housing market crisis. In short, it showed how subprime mortgages funded mortgage-backed securities that even impacted a community in Denmark.

Now that’s globalization.

This crisis shows that we’re all in this together, and that the collective is greater than the sum of its parts. One wheel can’t go in one direction while the other goes elsewhere.

Obama said that in a speech in Orange County, California, yesterday.

“I can’t do it without you. That’s why I am here today,” [Obama] said. “It will take all of us talking, working together to get us through this.”

Let’s take the challenge. Let’s take a look at how we’ve lived our lives this far on a bubble. There’s nothing wrong with the American Dream as long as it is based in reality. Now is the time to reflect on what is truly important and to take inventory of our priorities.

What better time than now to do so?
