Stressed? Grab a book
For some light Sunday fodder, I thought a good stress-busting tip was in order. After a full week of work, travel and schedule juggling, Sundays are indeed a day of rest.
Can’t relax? Grab a good read.
According to a recent study at the University of Sussex, even six minutes of reading can alleviate your stress levels by 68%. The Telegraph reports:
Listening to music reducedĀ [stress] levels by 61 per cent, have a cup of tea or coffee lowered them by 54 per cent and taking a walk by 42 per cent.
What to do when you can’t unwind? Take a brisk walk, then grab a cup of your favorite hot beverage and read a book. You’ll feel your pulse return to its resting rate, stress hormones will evaporate and you will escape to a new frontier, all from the comfort of your own home.

April 6, 2009 at 3:41 pmI just finished a wonderful book that did just that for me, “The Story of Edgar Sawtelle.” I didn’t want it to end. It was beautifully written, and I have a whole new relationship to my dogs out of it. Thanks for the perspective you give to me.
