Getting Down to Earth
We’ve talked of fire to feed your passion. We’ve spoken of water as a necessary element. What about the earth? It’s kind of hard to rush through a Nature walk. It doesn’t take long to slow down your pulse as you immerse yourself in a forest or some garden work. Plants are in partnership with our very essence. They breathe in what we breathe out, a kind of life-sustaining symbiosis.
If you haven’t yet seen the movie Into the Wild based on Jon Krakauer‘s book (brilliantly adapted, then directed, by Sean Penn), it is a testimony to the human spirit. It is a true story about a young man who risks everything to live his truth. While not everyone needs to burn their social security card and hitchhike to Alaska as he did, we could benefit from getting a little bit more down to earth.
Rub your hands in a sandbox today. Or take just five seconds to stop and literally smell the roses in a nearby garden or shop. As you breathe in, thank the earth for the great job it does in holding a space for us all.
